Agave Americana

Approx. actual plant size 15-20cm tall

An evergreen perennial, native to Mexico and the USA it can be cultivated worldwide as an ornemental plant and has been naturalised in many other regions inclulding West Indies, South America, Africa, China, India, Thailand and Australia.

They can reach a height of up to 3m (5ft) tall and a spread of upto 1.5m (2.5ft) wide. This variety has yellow highlights around the very prickly leaves. Be careful when touching them as they are very sharp especially at the tip.

These plants thrive in a hot, sunny environment. They have been planted in a well drained soil mix consisting of sand and perlite to help with drainage. Water deeply and allow soil to dry before watering again, around every 2 weeks or when soil is dry.
